At DOE and Department of Defense facilities, we have designed and implemented site-specific ecological risk assessments. These projects have involved field and laboratory studies, as well as development of conceptual models to link contaminants and biota and also species-specific dose models. These site-specific assessments have addressed chemical and radiological contaminants for the DOE Weldon Spring Site Remedial Action project in Missouri, chemical contaminants at the Army's J-Field site at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, and depleted uranium at the China Lake Naval Air Station in California.
We have applied our expertise to help DOE and the Navy develop policy and guidance related to ecological risk assessment, hazardous materials and waste, background chemicals at cleanup sites, and natural resource injuries during cleanup and restoration. For Navy and Superfund sites, we have assisted in development of guidance for biomonitoring and monitoring plan development for contaminated sites.
We have also developed and conducted environmental restoration training for the Navy and other Department of Defense services through the Naval Civil Engineers Corps Officers School and other avenues. This training has included courses titled Ecological Risk Assessment, Human Health Risk Assessment, Environmental Background Analysis, Environmental Geographic Information Systems/Geostatistics, and Naval Environmental Restoration Program.
